The majority of people who read my articles and e-books know me as a science man who likes to cite studies and apply research to everyday concerns like weight reduction, bodybuilding, and other health/fitness-related topics. However, it is often necessary to take a step back from the science and consider the big picture in order to help people see the forest for the trees, so to speak.

Is your diet up to snuff when it comes to "The Test"?
What, above all else, is the number one reason diets fail long-term? The most important cause is a lack of long-term compliance. The statistics show that the vast majority of people who lose weight get it back - and often more than they lost. Didn't you already know that?
What are you doing, though, to avoid it? Another reality check: almost any diet that follows the basic premise of "burning" more calories than you consume - the well-known "calories in, calories out" mantra - will result in weight loss. They all work to some extent: In the near run, it doesn't matter if you eat Atkins-style, no carb diets, low fat high carb diets, or any other fad diet.
